Races

Only two years old, the Jurong Lake Run has grown tremendously! Participants more than doubled to 15,000 this year, prize money was boosted and more importantly, a sum of $250,000 was raised for seven extremely worthy causes - Singapore Children's Society, Children's Cancer Foundation, Loving Heart Multi-Service Centre, Singapore Association for Mental Health, Aspiration Wan Qing Lodge, Lakeside Family Centre, and Concern and Care Neighbourhood Link.

Growth was not the only staggering thing about this race, as the route set was magnificent! Flagging off from the Science Centre, a signature building of the west, the runners shot down the road tracing the edges of the ever-picturesque Chinese Gardens. The black tar path shimmered on this sunny morning as runners gleefully sped along in their race categories.

The grand motto of “Running as One” was encapsulated in the charity element and the broad races. New this year was the 3km community walk-a-jog, allowing everyone to run their own race. With inclusion in mind, the veteran categories caused the age band to explode. The Jurong Lake Run 2012 had participants from one years of age to eighty!

It is said that great bodies of water aid running. Then, pagodas and fluffy skies must be a triple threat combination, with the fastest racer clocking in at 00:31:47, Mr. Guillaume Soh, aged 20, for the Mediacorp 10km Men’s Open. It must have been something in the juice boxes as majority of the winners were under 25.

Like its young victors, one can expect many great things from the Jurong Lake Run!
