What is Your Running Luck for 2016?

What is Your Running Luck for 2016?

Imagine you can find out about your running luck for the next year, will you use the information to maximize your chance of improving your PB? No matter who you are, there will be a Chinese Zodiac animal assigned to your birth year.

Whether you know nothing about the Chinese Zodiac or you're so invested in your animal sign, you wouldn't think of entering a marathon if your forecast says that you’re in danger of being injured, it can't hurt to find a middle ground and use your sign as a conversation starter or motivator.

In honor of Lunar New Year — starting on February 8, 2016 — we'll share our forecast on how you can improve your running performance and what to be mindful of in 2016.

Running Rat

Rat

You are a Rat if you were born in:
1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008

While your patience is a huge virtue, you may wish to peek beneath the surface because you're fairly highly-strung, which has a tendency to weaken your chi body constitution. Fight this tendency by committing to regular conditioning runs that put you on an even playing field, so you work out those contradictions on the track rather than in your personal life. Make new running friends this year by applying your great social skills and you may be in for a pleasant surprise!

Running Attribute: Wisdom
Running Luck in 2016: 3.5 stars
Exercise Caution: Don’t try to pass "Horses" when you run—especially "female Horses". You've been warned!

Running Ox

Ox

That’s your sign if you came into the world in:
1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997

Few horoscope signs are as prone to stress, so whether you're an ox or a cow, it's important to guard against the kind of stress that has the potential to trigger physical illnesses by paying attention to what you eat in 2016. Running alone won't help if you abuse your body by feeding it improperly. Oxen are about to experience a year of major transformations, and what could be more transformative than making 2016 the year you hit your goal weight?

Running Attribute: Diligence
Running Luck in 2016: 4 stars
Exercise caution: You're stronger than you think, but if your body doesn't feel right, don't risk injury.

Running Tiger

Tiger

You are a Tiger if you were born in:
1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010

Can you roar? Okay - can you at least sing the Katy Perry hit song when you cross train? You need to focus more in 2016 because you folks have a tendency to prioritise the big picture over smaller incidents that go unnoticed until they can’t be ignored. Add a second athletic endeavour to complement your current running routine because sex is going to be a huge factor in your life in 2016, and you don't want to be caught in the buff looking flabby, do you?

Running Attribute: Fearlessness
Running Luck in 2016: 3 stars
Exercise caution: You love taking risks and this year would be good for you to travel for overseas races, but check out organisers if you’re considering a new marathon.

Running Rabbit

Rabbit

You are a Rabbit if you were born in:
1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999

You may dislike being associated with an animal best known for rampant reproduction, but be of good cheer, because 2016 will be all about financial and emotional rewards. Rabbits love fitness, so while you're waiting for those rewards, think about taking up a sport that doesn't require sprinting. Swim, lift weights, try a studio class or renew your commitment to treadmill time, and we probably don't have to remind you to include plenty of carrots in your diet.

Running Attribute: Cautious
Running Luck in 2016: 5 stars
Exercise caution: Unlike Tigers, you dislike taking risks, but if you don't do it this year, when will you?

Dragon

You are a Dragon if you were born in:
1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000

People of Asian culture love associating with a symbol that’s as rich in folklore, art and history as this one, but even that powerful zodiac sign won't protect you if you don't stop fearing challenges. Why are you putting off entering the marathon you’ve thought about? What's stopping you from filling out at least one registration form that commits you to a 2016 Singapore run? Keep this in mind, Dragon Breath: it often takes a failure to prepare one for success, so take a breath and jump in, and if you need help, please ask for it.

Running Attribute: Power
Running Luck in 2016: 2.5 stars; 3.5 stars if you compete!
Exercise caution: It's okay to motivate fellow runners - as long as it doesn't interfere with your finish time.

Running Snake

Snake

You are a Snake if you were born in:
1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001

Snakes have reputations for being - well - slithery and slippery. But that doesn't mean that runners born in the year of the snake can't make aboveboard decisions when addressing their tendency to be too cerebral. Ignoring reality in favour of intellectual rationalisation could put your finances and career in jeopardy. If you insist upon proving something to yourself or others by overloading your marathon schedule so you avoid having a life, don't point fingers at others. In 2016, if you don't exercise a little wisdom and balance, your love could slither away.

Running Attribute: Flexibility
Running Luck in 2016: 4.5 stars
Exercise caution: You run better on dirt than concrete. If given a choice, take the trail to stay injury free.

Running Horse

Horse

You are a Horse if you were born in:
1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002

Why do horses run at a fast clip? Because they tend to be hyperactive and galloping across terrain combats feeling manic and wired. Horses relate to Pegasus, the Greek mythological horse, but if they fly around too much, they can forget to graze. Why stop for sustenance? Because in 2016, your romantic life could rev up and so could your career, so stock your pantry with healthy foodstuffs. No excuses for missing running club meets, either, since Horses get more pleasure than most from running in herds!

Running Attribute: Persistence
Running Luck in 2016: 3 stars
Exercise caution: Your impatience could get you into hot water. Promise to breathe deeply in 2016!

Running Sheep

Sheep

You are a Sheep if you were born in:
1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003

Of course it's fun to roam and graze, but if you don't include a healthy mix of running and strength training, you could pack on the pounds this year - and don't count on that fluffy, woolly coat to hide it. That whole grazing scene? It was made for runners, so never pass a salad bar when you eat out and keep lots of greens in your fridge. Sheep tend to be stable, so when big projects come along, you’ll not only be up to the challenge, but you can expect to be compensated nicely thanks to your stoic outlook. Don’t be sheepish about making 2016 the year you run a charitable race to repay your good fortune.

Running Attribute: Togetherness
Running Luck in 2016: 3.5 stars
Exercise caution: Some sheep are referred to as goats; stay out of the garbage or your stomach could rebel.

Running Monkey

Monkey

You are a Monkey if you were born in:
1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004

Congratulations and good fortune to you! 2016 is your year, however runners can get a bit overconfident if they let their egos loose and allow them to swing from too many trees. In 2016, everything a Monkey could want, need and desire awaits, but Monkeys who ignore aerobic exercise and upper body toning may not have the stamina necessary to handle this largesse. Treat your body like gold so your heart pumps efficiently, your blood is properly oxygenated and your head stays clear. In other words, don't get into any monkey business!

Running Attribute: Playfulness
Running Luck in 2016: 2 stars
Exercise caution: You love everyone, but not everyone you meet - even at a race - is your friend.

Running Rooster

Rooster

You are a Rooster if you were born in:
1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005

Crow about it if you like, but don’t get too cocky; Roosters are candidates for injury if they're so busy crowing while ignoring their footing that they fail to take proper care of their bodies. You're an ideal candidate for alternative healing techniques. In case you're injured while running, holistic treatments could get you back on your feet faster than relying on medicines alone. A word to the wise: watch your money carefully in 2016 and save some so you don’t find yourself at the bottom of the pecking order at work or at home.

Running Attribute: Consistent
Running Luck in 2016: 4 stars
Exercise caution: Don't give celeb runners too much credit in 2016; you can be just as good if you try harder!

Running Dog

Dog

You are a Dog if you were born in:
1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006

Of all of the Chinese Horoscope signs, the Dog is most favoured by the gods because they're loyal, dedicated and faithful, but too much altruism can leave them with nothing but kitchen scraps. To avoid that possibility, hire a Feng Shui expert to scope out your home, or fights with your running buddies could erupt and cause hard feelings. That stated, dogs rarely wind up in the dog house because they instinctively run from anger, fear and frustration at a pace that's fast enough to get rid of unhealthy feelings. As a result, they sleep soundly - even when the cat's around.

Running Attribute: Enthusiasm
Running Luck in 2016: 2.5 stars
Exercise caution: Yap, yap, yap; no complaining, please, if you don’t condition properly and lose your race.

Running Pig

Pig

That’s your sign if you came into the world in:
1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007

People may poke fun at you because you contribute to so many delicious recipes, but remember that Buddha didn't forget Pigs when he named all 12 Chinese Zodiac signs, even though Pigs arrived long after the other 11 animals. Pigs may not always medal at races, but they're so optimistic and affectionate, they shake it off and harbour no resentment. Passionate and goal-oriented, Pigs don't always get to the finish line first, but they're smart enough to know this secret: what matters most is completing the run, not the amount of time it takes.

Running Attribute: Amiable
Running Luck in 2016: 3 stars
Exercise caution: You're hungry for advice, but you don't always take it. Good for you. Listen to your heart.
