Race Date & Time

The race takes place on Sunday, 25 February 2018. The Wheelchair Marathon and Wheelchair 10km categories will flag off at 9:05 a.m. Meanwhile, Marathon and 10km categories will flag off at 9:10 a.m.

Cut-off Time

The time limit for Marathon and 10km are 7 hours and 1 hour 40 minutes respectively. For Wheelchair Marathon and Wheelchair 10km, the cut-off times are 2 hours 10 minutes and 35 minutes respectively. All time limits are based on gun time, not net time.

Start & Finish Line

Both Marathon and 10km races start at Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office. The 10km race finishes at Nihombashi, while Marathon race finishes at Tokyo Station/Gyoko-dori.

Ways to Enter the Race

1. General Entry

Runners who are able to complete a marathon within 6 hours and 40 minutes may apply online from 10:00 a.m. JST on 1 August (Tuesday) to 5:00 p.m. JST on 31 August (Thursday) 2017. If the number of applications exceeds the available slots, which is what usually happens, entrants will be selected through lottery.

The lottery result will be announced around mid-September. Afterwards, selected entrants need to make payment of entry fee by credit card before the deadline.

2. RUN as ONE – Tokyo Marathon 2018 “Semi-Elite (Overseas)”

This program is designed for excellent overseas runners the chance to participate in Tokyo Marathon 2018. The qualifying times are: 2:21:01 – 2:45:00 for Men; and 2:52:01 – 3:30:00 for Women. Applicants must meet the standard qualifying time in the races held in 2016 and 2017, which are: IAAF Gold Label, Silver Label, or Bronze Label Races and AIMS Certified Races. The tentative available slots under this category is 300.

The application is open from 7 to 31 July 2017. Runners will be selected based on the official record mentioned in the certificates submitted during application, with preference given to the fastest qualifiers. The selection result will be announced on 22 August 2017. Selected runners will be required to make payment of entry fee by credit card. Those who are not selected will automatically be placed into the general lottery entry.

3. Charity Runner

Charity runners may apply for Tokyo Marathon 2018 by raising at least 100,000 Yen. The application for Charity Runner opened on 1 July 2017. Due to overwhelming response, the 3,900 slots have been filled up on 8 July 2017.

In addition to 3,900 slots under Charity Runner, there are also 100 slots under Active Charity Program, where the recipient programs will promote and raise funds on their own with those secured slots. If you’re interested in applying through Active Charity Program, visit Tokyo Marathon Charity’s website to check which recipient programs still have available slots and contact the recipient programs directly.

If you wish to donate any amount, you can do so online, from 1 July 2017 until 31 March 2018.

Number Card Pick-Up

Once you’ve secured your entry, take note that the Tokyo Marathon EXPO 2018 will be held from 22 to 24 February 2018 (Thursday to Saturday) at Tokyo Big Sight. Do not miss the race expo, because you can’t collect your race bib on the race day.
