The Singaporean duo who travelled to Copenhagen for the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships will come home after making their mark on the international stage.

The IAAF World Half Marathon Championships is an annual competition organised by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), attracting elite athletes from around the world.

Athlete Mok Ying Ren posted a timing of 70 minutes and 16 seconds for the half marathon at the IAAF. He recently broke Singapore’s national half marathon record in the Ageo City Half Marathon with a timing of 67 minutes and 53 seconds.

Soh Rui Yong Achieves Personal Best

But it was his team mate Soh Rui Yong who ran with great form, achieving his personal best of 68 minutes and 19 seconds for the half marathon.

Soh Rui Yong commented on his excellent timing,

“The roaring Copenhagen crowd and fine competition helped me to a new personal best of 68min 18sec, breaking my previous best by 57sec.

Time for some rest! If all goes well, I will try for the Singapore half marathon record of 67min 53sec at the Eugene Half Marathon on 29 July.”

Mok also congratulated his team mate Soh, saying,

“No Personal Best but good run of 70:15 for me! Congrats to Rui Yong who ran a massive PB of 68:18!! Feeling smashed! Thank you all of you in Singapore!!”

IAAF Champion Sets Sights On World Record

Geoffrey Kipsang Kamworor came in first in the competition, who won in 59 minutes and 08 seconds. It was the world’s fastest half marathon time this year.

“For me now the main goal is to run a world record for the half marathon. I cannot predict right now where it will be, but I know I can run a faster race.”
