Experience a glimpse of the old Hong Kong heritage while sharing joyful memories and supporting a great cause together! Organised by the Sedan Chair Charities Fund (SCCF), the Sedan Chair Race & Bazaar is held in Hong Kong at The Matilda International Hospital of the Peak every last Sunday of October.

Last year’s “Hollywood on the Peak” themed event saw several participants dressed up as classic and iconic movie characters. This year, it’s 41st, the Sedan Chair Race will be themed “Our Music Festival on Peak: Turn On and Tune In” and will be held on Sunday, 25 October 2015.

Lots of running events are organised with charities and associations in mind, but often, smaller organisations lose out on these big-scale opportunities. That’s where the Sedan Chair Race is different: The annual event is SCCF’s main fundraising event for lesser-known charities which do not receive funding from the Hong Kong Jockey Club or the Hong Kong Government, so that they are empowered to illuminate in society.

Covering a 2.1km route around the Peak, the Sedan Chair Race will host five different course categories: Super Eight Challenge, The Serious Challenge, The Fun Challenge, Serious/ Fun Challenge – Ladies and Serious/ Fun Challenge – Schools.

Doesn’t matter what profession and sector you come from—be it corporations, associations, clubs or schools, you can form teams of 8 people, a passenger, and an optional cheerleader. Several companies have supported the race over the years as the combined efforts of training and creative chair decorations drum up tremendous team spirit amongst their employees.

Awards will be presented to the fastest teams and those with the best fundraising across all categories. On top of that, your team also stands to win numerous prizes for fun awards like The Best Dressed, The Best Decorated Chair, The Most Entertaining, and the Team Capturing the “Spirit of the Event”.

To end off the races on a sweet note, runners can continue the festivities at the bazaar which will feature several retail as well as commercial food & beverage stalls.

Now Open for Registration!

Registration fees for each team of 8 runners and 1 passenger is HK$1,000. Registration deadline closes in July 2015. A minimum team donation, corresponding to the donation category, is also required.

You are highly recommended to submit forms for one of the funniest races ever as soon as possible since only places are limited to 53 teams.

Find out more about the Sedan Chair Race on their official website.

Editor’s Note: In light of the recent passing and loss of their Chairman, Ms Mary Rafferty, RunSociety sends our condolences to SCCF and her family.
