Have always been wanting to be a part of the Tokyo Marathon but have always put it aside? Now it’s the time to be a part of it! Below is our guide on how to register for the Tokyo Marathon 2019.

Race date and time

The race takes place on Sunday, 3 March 2019. The Wheelchair Marathon and Wheelchair 10km categories will flag off at 9:05 a.m. Meanwhile, Marathon and 10km categories will flag off at 9:10 a.m.

Cut-off time

The cut-off time for Marathon and 10km race is 7 hours and 1 hour 40 minutes respectively. For the wheelchair marathon and wheelchair 10km race, the cut-off time is 2 hours 10 minutes and 35 minutes respectively. The time limits are based on the gun time, not on the net time.

Start and finish line

Both the Marathon and the 10km race will begin at Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. The marathon race finishes at Tokyo Station/Gyoko-dori Ave, while the 10km race finishes at Nihombashi.

Marathon: Japan residents – 10,800 Yen ; Overseas runners – 12,800 Yen
10km Race: Japan residents – 5,600 Yen ; Overseas runners- 6,700 Yen

Ways to enter the race

1. General Entry (Pending)

2. Charity Runners

Charity runners may apply for the Tokyo Marathon 2019 by raising at least 100,000 Yen. The application for Charity Runners opens on the 2nd of July and will end on the 31st of July, 5 p.m. (in JST). There are only 5,000 slots and it is based on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Other than Charity Runner, there is a total of 300 slots under Active Charity, where the recipient programs will promote and raise funds on their own with those secured slots. If you are interested in applying for the Active Charity Program, visit Tokyo Marathon Charity’s website to check which recipient programs still have available slots and contact the recipient programs directly.

3. RUN as ONE – Tokyo Marathon 2019 “Semi-Elite (Overseas)”

This program is designed to provide excellent runners, who reside outside of Japan and meet the criteria that is set by Tokyo Marathon foundation, the right to participate in the Tokyo Marathon 2019. The qualifying times are: 2:21:01 ~ 2:45:00 for Men; and 2:52:01 ~ 3:30:00 for Women. Applicants must meet the standard qualifying time in the races held in 2017 and 2018, which are IAAF Gold Label, Silver Label, or Bronze Label Races and AIMS Certified Races. The tentative available slot under this category is 300. The application is open on 9 July 2018.

Number card pick-up

Once you have secure yourself a slot, the Tokyo Marathon 2019 EXPO will be held on three dates: Thursday, February 28, Friday, March 1, and Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Odaiba-Aomi Event Area. Do take note that you can’t miss the race expo date because you won’t be able to collect your race bib on the race day.
