The usual stereotype of the male running while the female plays the role of cheerleader is obsolete.

On Saturday, 11 May 2013, some 8,000 female runners will be racing through Singapore city, as part of a global running movement of 85,000 female runners across 12 cities.

Nike’s female-only race returns to Singapore for the third year. This race brings female runners across the world together and inspires them to enjoy running through Nike+ and social communities that enable them to share their experiences.

The Nike She Runs event series deliver a positive sports experience to female runners in countries where women’s sports participation grows rapidly. Further enhancing the race experience, Nike has planned training runs led by Nike athletes and trainers to help the participants prepare for the big event.

“Nike seeks to inspire women to celebrate their own style and running goals through each event,” said Sanjay Gangopadhyay, Marketing Director, Nike Southeast Asia.

It does not matter whether you are a highly competitive runner who remains fiercely feminine, or a runner who craves competition yet thrives on the camaraderie of running friends.

The Singapore leg of the Nike She Runs series is a 5km route set against the scenic backdrop of Gardens by the Bay East.

The global She Runs series was launched on 10th March in Mexico City and will conclude on 8th June in Lima, Peru – a total of 12 races in 12 countries.

Over a period of four months, more than 85,000 women from diverse communities, such as Korea, Bogata, Sydney, will participate in the various races of various distances. This is a great increase from only 20,000 participants in 2009.

The female participants can make use of Nike+, Nike’s digital platform, to track and measure their performance throughout their training and race day, while wearing Nike’s apparel and footwear innovations specially designed for them.

It is time for the good boyfriends and dutiful husbands to look after the ladies’ bags and prepare the towel and water at the finish line.
