Have you heard of Whole Body Cryotherapy and NormaTec Dynamic Compression? Both of these technologies may be unfamiliar to you in Singapore but they have been around for quite some time and used around the world mostly in Western countries.

To make these state of the art medical therapies available in Singapore, Joshua Loong, Founder of PHYSIQUE will launch its Singapore’s first lifestyle and performance centre at One Raffles Place, on Thursday, 10 December 2015. PHYSIQUE’s signature services – Whole Body Cryotherapy and NormaTec Dynamic Compression, are available for athletes, recreational sports & outdoor enthusiasts, and professionals, managers, executives and businessmen (“PMEBs”).

Commenting on PHYSIQUE’s services, Calvin Kang, National Sprinter, said,

Cryotherapy helps me to recover between hard training sessions and it goes deep into the tissues with the low temperature. It relaxes the whole body and heals any overworked muscles. To complete the treatment session, jumping into the NormaTec machine helps with a light massage to keep you ready for the next session!

About Whole Body Cryotherapy

Whole Body Cryotherapy is new to Singapore although it has been used for decades in Europe and for the last six years in the United States. It is the use of low temperatures to repair and heal muscles – taken from the Greek language, Cryo means cold and therapy means cure. It is used to shorten muscle recovery time and provide relief from delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) among sports people. Besides the sports benefits, other benefits include a boost in energy levels, calorie burning (estimated at approximately 500-800 calories in the next few days after each session) and improved skin elasticity (from a boost in collagen production).

Today, it is widely used around the world (especially in Europe, the United States, Australia and Japan) by athletes, recreational sports and outdoor enthusiasts and PMEBs. Some of the international well known users include: Cristiano Ronaldo, Usain Bolt, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Floyd Mayweather, Katy Perry, English Premier League teams like Arsenal and several NBA teams like San Antonio Spurs.

About NormaTec Dynamic Compression

Invented by Dr Laura Jacobs, a rehabilitation physician and bioengineer (MD, PhD) to speed up the body’s recovery process, the pulsing motion of the NormaTec Dynamic Compression system mimics the muscle pump of the arms or legs, significantly enhancing the movement of fluid and metabolites around and out of the limbs after intense use or long periods of static use. Other benefits include an improvement in circulation and a reduction in water retention.

Today, NormaTec Dynamic Compression is used regularly across the sporting arena. Since 2007, users include the majority of the NBA (including LeBron James and Kevin Durant), NFL and NHL teams, the US Navy SEALS, the US Olympic Committee and Tour de France cyclists. In Singapore, it has recently been used by National Sprinter Calvin Kang and National Swimmer Joseph Schooling.

PHYSIQUE is located at 05-17, One Raffles Place, Singapore 048616 (Mall). Opening hours will be from 11am to 8.30pm on Weekdays, 11am to 6.30pm on Saturdays. It will be closed on Sundays/Public Holidays.

What do you think of these therapies? Will you try them or are you sceptical about their benefits?
