Wonderful Indonesia is a flagship program of the Indonesian tourism ministry to introduce Indonesian tourism objects to foreign countries which are carried out with various tourism destinations and creative economic development programs, and sports is one of them. Sleman Regency in the Special Region of Yogyakarta has an active volcano which is a landmark and cultural preserve. With the theme “Merapi Jendela Dunia” the Sleman Regency Tourism Office cooperates with running communities in Yogyakarta to work together to create an international run event on the “Merapi” Volcano.
Currently running is not just a sport or hobby, but has become a lifestyle of modern society. Combining tourism and sports, bringing together government agencies and millennial running communities was born “VOLCANO RUN” with a target of more than 2000 participants. Sleman Regency Tourism Office is committed to developing the Mount Merapi tourist destination through the “VOLCANO RUN” event which will be one of Wonderful Indonesia’s excellent programs.
Mount Merapi has many stories and a variety of cultures, local wisdom seems to blend with tourist villages that are being intensively developed. There are many things that can be the main attraction on Mount Merapi, running along is a matter of pride and challenge. Through this proposal, it is understandable how the Road Run “VOLCANO RUN” is not just a running event.
