Are you ready to start 2023 off with a bang? For Chinese, the Chinese New Year is one of the most important holidays in Chinese culture and the festival that celebrates the beginning of a new year.

So the best time to reach your fitness goals and inspire others in your community is to get active after the Chinese New Year feasting and celebrations.

In this guide, you’ll find tips and tricks on how to get ready for your first running event in the new year and make sure you are prepped and ready to go.

Set Realistic Goals

Before you even begin training, it’s important to set realistic goals. Make sure that your goals are achievable and be honest with yourself – if you haven’t been exercising for long, consider running a 5K race instead of a half marathon.

Start small and gradually build up to longer distances. Once you have successfully achieved your initial distance target, use that as momentum to work towards more ambitious goals.

Make a Training Plan

If you’re serious about achieving your fitness goals in 2023, it’s important to set up a training plan. This plan should take into consideration how often you are able to exercise, what type of exercises you will do, and scheduling in rest days as well.

Creating a plan is half the battle – sticking to it with discipline will ensure that you are prepared for all the races in the coming year.

Start Early and Stay Consistent with Your Training

It’s always best to begin your training for a race at least six months in advance to make sure your body is prepared and conditioned for the challenge. So a good way, is to join an online race regularly on a monthly basis.

Whether you start running, do strength training, or take up a new sport altogether, it’s important to be consistent about it.

Consistency can help you avoid burnout and stay motivated throughout the process leading up to the completion of the race.

Take Rest Days Seriously

Rest days are just as critical as your training days. It’s important to adequately rest and recover since this helps to ease muscle soreness and fatigue as well as prevent sports injuries.

During rest periods, take time for some form of active recovery such as yoga or swimming which can help increase circulation, reduce inflammation, and improve flexibility.

This will help you in the long run when it comes to running performance!

Choose Your Running Terrain

To add more fun in your race, be sure to run on as many different surfaces as possible (i.e. trail, concrete, treadmill).

This will help increase your foot’s tolerance to the diverse patterns of any running surface you may encounter for the race and enable you to enjoy each workout more.

Be sure to avoid rocky or potholed paths and opt instead for smooth terrain and pathways with a softer feel to ease the risk of trips, falls, and ankle sprains.

Start First With The Chinese New Year Race

Celebrate Chinese New Year in style with the CNY Year of the Rabbit Challenge 2023! Participate and get active while ringing in the good fortune of the new year when you completed a 8KM distance via running, walking, cycling or any other sporting activities.
