When ASICS footwear designer & developer Toshikazu Kayano first started developing the GEL-Kayano Trainer, he thought he was just creating a running shoe. History would show that he was also creating a legacy.
Over 18 Million Pairs Produced Worldwide
From the first 48,000 pairs of the GEL-KAYANO TRAINER produced in 1993, the GEL-Kayano series has gone on to produce over 18 million pairs across the world. The award-winning series continues to inspire runners over 2 decades after its introduction.
So popular has the GEL-Kayano been that the GEL-Kayano 14 and 15 were each respectively voted by Runner’s World as Editor’s Choice and International Editor’s Choice of the year in 2008 and 2009 respectively. The GEL-Kayano 18 was also chosen as Best Update and International Best Update in 2012.
2009 also saw the introduction of ASICS special gender specific technology in the GEL-KAYANO 15 series. It proved a very popular change, with over 1,520,000 pairs produced and the gender split moving a lot closer together: Men’s over 822,000 and Women’s 696,000.
A Balanced Mix Of Cushioning And Stability
Designed for mild to moderate over-pronators, the GEL-Kayano 20 has been updated with the new FluidRide™ and FluidFit™ technology. FluidRide is the latest evolution in ASICS midsole technology, providing the ultimate in lightweight cushioning and bounce back, allowing runners to run longer and faster.
The changes to the midsole have allowed for a new higher density SpEVA® 55 lasting, which together with the exoskeletal clutch counter creates greater stability and gait efficiency from heel to toe. FluidFit uses mesh for multidirectional stretch combined with other stretch materials to create a glove like fit.
Consistent and Enduring Technology
The innovative ASICS technologies such as rearfoot and forefoot GEL® Cushioning System, the now synonymous full length guidance line, the I.G.S® (for enhanced gait efficiency), as well as the DYNAMIC DUOMAX® midsole have all been introduced over the years and still exist today. Another example of the consistency and trust ASICS has in its technology.
Mr. Kayano’s vision and philosophy have been carried on to ensure that the GEL-Kayano series is always pushed to new limits of technology and quality.
