Time to stretch your legs, get a cardio workout and run, but not many choice of places to go to? Think again.

Although Singapore is one of the world's most densely populated islands with limited areas to explore, running tracks are readily available and abundant.

Singapore is rife with stadiums; unfortunately, some are not open to the public. Still, plenty of other options like parks, paths and trail to run are available, but if you want a measured, controlled atmosphere, these 10 stadium tracks should tickle your fancy.

New Singapore National Stadium

The island country's state of the art facility opened 30 June 2014 at the site of the old National Stadium in Kallang. It is located in right next to Stadium MRT Station on the Circle Line. The stadium is a dome with innovative bowl-cooling system and has a retractable roof and seating configurations, which can seat more than 50,000 - 55,000 spectators, depending on the sport event.

Facilities: 100PLUS Promenade (distance of 888 metre), an eight-lane running track, Stadium Pitch for football, rugby, cricket and other sports.
Nearby Facilities: OCBC Aquatic Centre, the multi-purpose OCBC Arena, the Singapore Sports Museum, the Sports Hub library, the Kallang Wave shopping mall, Sports Promenade, Community facilities and the Singapore Indoor Stadium, as well as a Water Sports Centre.
Opening Hours: The National Stadium will not be opened to public during non-event days and is only open to ticket holders during an event day. Nonetheless, public can make use of the 100PLUS Promenade which open to public 24/7.

Bedok Stadium

This venerable stadium located at 1 Bedok North Street 2 opened in 1982 and is managed by the Singapore Sports Council (SSC). It is part of a larger complex that includes Bedok Swimming Complex, Bedok Sports Hall, Bedok Fitness Centre and the Bedok Stadium itself. The Stadium and Sports Complex is home to the Geylang football club, Singapore Silat Federation and the Singapore Sepak Takraw Federation. It is easy to get to, making it one of the most popular running spots in Singapore.

Facilities: The stadium consists of a soccer field, an 8-lane running track and partial athletic facilities.
Nearby Facilities: Bedok Swimming Complex, Bedok Sports Hall, Bedok Fitness Centre.
Opening Hours: Runners can access the stadium from 4:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily
Nearest MRT Station: Tanah Merah

Bishan Stadium

Bishan Stadium is another one of the long line of stadiums located at 7 Bishan Street 14 opened in 1998. As Singapore's international population took off, the SSC saw a need to increase the number of venues for runners. Bishan helped answer that call. It is open to the public and offers corporate membership deals as an incentive to promote physical fitness. This stadium also incorporates an eight-lane track as part of the larger fitness facility.

Facilities: 1 soccer field, 1 8-lane running track, Partial Athletic facilities
Other Facilities: The Stadium is part of the Bishan Sports and Recreation Centre, which includes Bishan Sports Hall and Bishan Swimming Complex. An indoor sports hall with facilities for badminton, table tennis and gymnastics lies adjacent to the stadium.
Opening Hours: The public can use the facilities from 4.30a.m to 8.30p.m daily unless it is exclusively booked for a sporting event.

Bukit Gombak Stadium

Like many stadiums operated by the SSC, this stadium is located in the heart of neighbourhood housing estate to provide convenient use to resident. This facility, which opened in 1991, is located at 800 Bukit Batok West Avenue 5 and has been converted to a Centre of Excellence for the Singapore Athletic Association.

Opening Hours: Daily entry to run from 4.30 a.m to 8.30 p.m daily unless it is exclusively booked for a sporting event.

Choa Chu Kang Stadium

Located in Choa Chu Kang, this facility is easily accessible and open to the public. In addition to the opportunity to run, there are restaurants and shops to go along with a child-care center and other recreational activities.

What sets this stadium apart is its design and architecture, which has garnered recognition since it opened in 2001.

Nearby Facilities: A 50metre Olympic swimming pool, a running track and athletics facilities, and a sports hall supporting indoor sports and activities for basketball and badminton courts, a gym and a dance training room. Outdoor facilities include tennis courts, petanque sandpits and street soccer pitches. The sports complex has a range of fun-oriented pools, including a wave pool, waterslide, bubble pools and children's play pools.

Queenstown Stadium

Constructed in 1970, Queenstown was the first sports complex built in Singapore. Today, it remains a well-known facility for running and fitness. A running organization sponsors group-training sessions twice a week at Queenstown. Queenstown is another of the long list of public facilities operated by the SSC. It is located about a 10-minute walk from the transit station.

MOE (Evans) Stadium

Also known as the School of Physical Education Stadium, this multi-use stadium is located at 21 Evans Road. The facilities are open to the public only outside of the school's curriculum hours. This stadium is popular for school activities and events.

Opened to the public on 10 November 2006, the Jurong West Stadium is part of the Jurong West Sports and Recreation Centre. This sports complex is the largest integrated sports centre in Singapore and is located at 20 Jurong West Street 93.

This scenic stadium at 1 Woodlands Street 13 opened in 1989 at a cost of more than S$84mil. It is centrally located in Woodlands, is open to the public and easily accessible to runners thanks to its proximity to mass transit. The views are outstanding and convenient for all ages of runners. One drawback is that the stadium is very popular for running, so it does get crowded.

Nearby Facilities: The stadium was part of the 8-hectare Woodlands Sports Complex, which also consists of the Woodlands Sports Hall and the Woodlands Swimming Complex.
Opening Hours: 4:30a.m to 8:30p.m daily.
Nearest MRT Station: Marsiling
