Veteran Hong Kong actor Chow Yun-fat complete the 10km marathon in the 25th Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon last Sunday (12 Feb).

Chow, who is also known as “Fat Gor” (“Big Brother Fat” in Cantonese), started the 10km race at 5:40 a.m. and completed the race in 1:03:58, placing him in the top 20% of runners in the event.

The Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon is one of the mega sporting events in Hong Kong with the number of participants usually over 70,000.

This year’s event saw about 37,000 runners out of over 50,000 applications, as the city’s return to normalcy after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Other celebrities that joined the annual marathon were boxer Rex Tso Sing-yu, actor Sisley Choi, actor Dickson Yu, model Inez Leong and more.

After the race was over, runners and reporters alike went up to him for photographs and interviews. Chow revealed that he had trained for the race for over a year and even hired a running coach to guide him.

While he told media that he is open to running again, he probably won’t go beyond 10km.

“10km is enough… let’s talk about it again in a few years when I’m older. I’m still too young now,” he joked.

Lessons We Can Learn From This Journey

Chow Yun Fat’s dedication and focus on fitness serves to motivate others to take better care of their health and wellbeing – even during the busiest of times.

It is also an excellent example of how success is achievable when one has a clear passion and goal, and diligently applies themselves to reaching it.

Last but not least, it demonstrates that having a positive attitude towards life, even at an older age, can help bring about great rewards in the end.
