One of the leading Standard Chartered runs in the world is held in neighbouring Malaysia. Back for its renewed eighth edition, the Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2016 (SCKLM) will be held on Sunday, 7 August 2016.

New Changes In Store

A new staggered registration system will be used to simplify the online sign-up process and reduce web-traffic congestion, allowing for a smoother registration experience. In addition, participants in SCKLM 2015 will be given priority to register for the 2016 event as last year’s race was cancelled due to the haze.

Another change to expect is the extension of the official full marathon cut-off time to 7 hours so as to minimise overcrowding on the course. A checkpoint system, a common feature in international marathons, will also be introduced this year. Runners will need to reach each checkpoint within a designated time or they will be shuttled back to the race venue.

Full marathoners can also look forward to the pre-race Friendship Run and Pasta Party, which aim to foster camaraderie amongst runners from all over the globe.

The Standard Chartered KL Marathon has grown to become Malaysia’s premier running event that draws thousands of local and international runners to navigate a route covering beautiful and historical landmarks around the city of Kuala Lumpur.
We hope that these additions will not only improve participant and fan experience but elevates the Marathon’s level of competition.
—Rainer Biemans, Director of Dirigo Events

The marathon will flag off from the historical grounds of Dataran Merdeka (Independence Square) in Kuala Lumpur. Other individual categories featured include the Honda Half Marathon, 10 km, 5 km Fun Run, as well as the 3 km and 1 km Kids Dash.

Flagging off from different locations, the 10 km and 5 km runs will finish at Dataran Merdeka, where all other distance categories will start and finish.

Participants can also register for the charity programme, Run For A Reason to support Standard Chartered Foundation (SCF), Hospis Malaysia, Yayasan Sejahtera and IJN Foundation.

Malaysian residents can also sign up in teams for the Corporate Challenge, Ministries Challenge and Universities Challenge.

We are proud to return as title sponsors of such an iconic sporting event. The marathon, along with its additions, showcases a perfect example of Standard Chartered’s dedication to sporting brilliance. This devotion is displayed in the Bank’s dedication to building trust through continuity, credibility, competence and skill in the field of sports.
—Mahendra Gursahani, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia
