With all the hype going around with the annual sakura season craze and sakura-themed apparels popping up all around the corner, I sure was ecstatic to receive my pair of ASICS’s Latest Sakura themed collection, GEL-KENUN SP.

I was immediately drawn to its pale pastel tone and the hint of pink cherry blossom petals along the sides of the shoe. Unlike other products with very distinct sakura designs, this one has only subtle hints of it, perfect for wearing even out of season! The structure of the shoes also gives off a really feminine feel without the usual bulkiness of generic sports shoes and hugs onto my feet nicely.

Breaking the impact

Weighing in at about 258 grams, the GEL-KENUN SP is considered to be on the light side of sports shoes. I admit that I was pretty worried that the support may not be enough due to its dainty appearance and light material, but never did I know I was in for a surprise when I wore it for a test run.

The GEL-KENUN MX SP performs really well in terms of support and speed, It tremendously lessened the impact when my feet touch the ground with its REARFOOT GEL® Technology Cushioning System and GUIDANCE LINE® Midsole Technology, maximising shock absorption and distributing the impact evenly, as well as correcting my outward rolling feet when I run.

This helped to prevent me from getting injuries such as the frequent ankle strains and sprains that I am often really prone to, being an Underpronator runner and allowed me to go faster without discomfort or fear of getting hurt. I later found out that It is made with Solyte Midsole Material which is half the weight of the normal E.V.A. sponges used in normal running shoes but provides 20% more shock absorption, hence its lighter weight.

Keeping Cool in Singapore’s Burning Season

Being the owner of a pair of sweaty feet, I always have to deal with stinky shoes after a run during the blazing season in Singapore; something that I am definitely not fond of.

But with GEL-KENUN MX SP’s ORTHOLITE® Lasting and ORTHOLITE® Sockliner insole which provides maximum breathability and moisture management, I was actually able to keep cool and dry throughout my run. And guess what? There’s no bad smell left in the shoes!

Runner’s Boon

  • It provides superior cushioning and support, especially for Underpronators.
  • It is really breathable and comfortable, perfect for running during hot weather.
  • The shock absorption capability of this shoe is really impressive.
  • Design is soft and feminine, fitting for casual wear.

Runner’s Bane

  • The laces are flat and smooth, which often comes undone easily so I usually stuff my laces into my shoe to avoid it coming apart.
  • The material does not dry quickly so I personally won’t recommend wearing it in wet weather.
