Wouldn’t it be perfect if there is a wearable that has GPS function, customisable face and straps, ability to track multiple types of sport, heart rate monitor, 3-axis compass, a lot of sophisticated technologies AND the size proportional to your wrist size?

“After years in the wearables market, Garmin knows that athletes and adventurers come in all sizes, which is why we have designed the new line of fēnix 5 watches to fit every wrist and every workout,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of worldwide sales.

The new Garmin fēnix 5 series consists of three watches of different sizes: fēnix 5S (42 mm), fēnix 5 (47 mm) and fēnix 5X (51 mm).

Talking about styles, Garmin fēnix 5’s QuickFit™ bands give you freedom to switch between premium leather, metal, to sporty silicone easily, without requiring tools.

Now, which Garmin fēnix 5 is right for you?

Garmin fēnix 5S

Garmin fēnix 5S is perfect for small wrists, especially petite female athletes like me who dislike big watches. With 42mm diameter size and 67g weight (with silicone band), fēnix 5S is small, light and sleek; yet still retains its multisport functionality. The fēnix 5S comes in silver colour, with customisable black, turquoise or black silicone band.

The fēnix 5S is also available in Sapphire edition. Sapphire edition watches feature scratch-resistant sapphire lens as well as ability to connect to wireless network and automatically upload activities for Garmin Connect, and they come with an extra silicon band. The Sapphire edition comes in black colour with black band, and champagne colour (with grey suede or metal band). The battery lasts up to 8 days in smartwatch mode, or up to 13 hours in GPS mode.

Garmin fēnix 5

Garmin fēnix 5 is a medium size watch with 47mm diameter and 85g weight (with silicone band), suitable for athletes who prefer rugged design with stainless steel bezel, buttons and rear case. The fēnix 5 is more compact than its predecessors like the fēnix 3HR, but is still feature-packed.

The fēnix 5 comes in silver colour with blue band, and slate grey colour with black or yellow band. The Sapphire edition is available in slate grey colour with metal band, or black colour with black band. The battery lasts up to 2 weeks in smartwatch mode, or up to 24 hours in GPS mode.

Garmin fēnix 5X

Garmin fēnix 5X is the ultimate multisport GPS watch. It is preloaded with full-colour TOPO US mapping, routable cycling maps and other outdoor navigation features. Round Trip Run and Round Trip Ride allow runners and cyclists to enter the distance they’d like to achieve and fēnix 5X will suggest appropriate courses to choose from. Guidance cues for upcoming turns will be displayed on the watch as banners. Around Me map mode displays points of interest and other map objects within user’s range to increase user’s awareness and ease of navigation in unfamiliar environment.

GroupTrack allows you to keep tabs on your buddies for adventures such as skiing; LiveTrack allows friends to follow your adventures in real time. The fēnix 5X is available in Sapphire edition, in slate grey colour with black band or metal band. The watch is 51mm in size and 98g in weight (with silicone band). The battery lasts up to 12 days in smartwatch mode, or up to 20 hours in GPS mode.

Connect IQ

When you participate in a long-distance race, it takes tremendous effort to keep your pace, let alone remember to fuel. Your fēnix 5 series watch will prompt a reminder for you to fuel, so you won’t worry about keeping track of how much gels you’ve eaten. This feature is made possible with GU Fuel Reminder app which is downloadable from Connect IQ Store.

Garmin allows third-party developers to create contents for Garmin wearables and other devices, and upload them to the Connect IQ Store. Users get to choose which apps they want to download to their devices. Thus, everyone’s fēnix 5 watch is unique to his or her personality and needs.

Technology

All the models in fēnix 5 series come with multisport tools that analyse metrics for running, hiking, cycling, swimming, skiing, paddle sports and other sports. For running, the fēnix 5 series goes the extra mile to calculate your performance condition, lactate threshold, cadence and stride length. The fēnix 5 series also features 24/7 heart rate monitoring, activity tracking, and notifications on incoming calls or texts when paired with smart phone.

In addition, the fēnix 5 series is equipped with comprehensive built-in navigation features including GPS, GLONASS satellite reception and 3-axis compass with gyroscope and barometric altimeter. The watches are also water rated to 100 meter.

I’ll tell you a secret. You can even use your photo as your watch face by downloading Face It app from Android’s Google Play or Apple’s App Store. How cool is this fēnix 5 series?

Are looking forward to getting your hands on one of the fēnix 5 series watches? They will be available in Q1 2017.
