Running Keeps You Young But Do You Know How Old is Your Hair Age?

Ageing is inevitable. As we age, we lose muscle mass which stores glycogen reserves and our max heart rate declines by a beat each year. Thus, our physical performance would be affected by these physiological changes.

However, a study was conducted by Institute for Physiology and Anatomy in Cologne, Germany, to examine age-related changes in marathon performance. The study showed that active runners don’t experience significant endurance performance loss before age of 50.

If running can slow down the process of ageing in terms of physical performance, is there anything out there to fight ageing in other areas of the body, such as hair?

Signs of Ageing Hair

According to Jane Ang, a Senior Trichologist in TK TrichoKare, as we age, the amount of pigment cells decreases, thus slowing down the production of melanin and resulting in grey hair appearance.

The decline in production of collagen and elastin causes hair dryness, brittleness and lacklustre. Over the time, the hair follicle shrinks, reducing the diameter of each individual hair; this results in thinner hair.

How to Slow Down the Ageing of Hair?

The team of hair care experts at TrichoKare has developed a solution to address ageing hair. The Advanced Age Defying Hair Treatment features the latest innovation, Oxyjet technology.

Furthermore, the treatment uses premium European herbal hair remedies to promote hair growth and strengthen hair follicles.
Key natural European botanicals includes:

EMU OIL

  • Boost the diameter and thickness of each hair
  • Reactivate 80% of dormant hair follicles

GINKGO BILOBA EXTRACT

  • Counteract signs of scalp ageing
  • Boost collagen to increase new hair growth

TrichoKare’s hair experts will design a personalised treatment programme to each customer to fight the signs of ageing hair.

Determine Hair Age

Intrigued about hair ageing issue, I went down to one of TrichoKare’s outlets one day for a consultation and treatment.

During the consultation, my trichologist and I went through a questionnaire and discussion about my hair problems. I brought up to her that I have dandruff and hair fall issue. She explained that dandruff is commonly caused by dead skin and oil clog over a long period of time.

She then performed a hair scan to see the real situation of my hair. She was surprised that I had a lot of dead skin, oil clog as well as reddish scalp which is a sign of itchiness. The only good news was that despite frequent hair fall, my new hair are constantly growing, so I don’t have thinning hair issue.

Based on my hair condition, my hair age was calculated. Guess how old is my hair age? 8 years older than my real age. I felt so old and couldn’t wait to start the hair treatment.

Advanced Age Defying Hair Treatment

The first stage in the hair treatment was a customised hair mask. It helps to deeply cleanse the scalp by removing impurities and excess sebum. Then, my hair was wrapped with a towel. After leaving the towel and mask on for 10 minutes, I proceeded to the next step, the hair washing.

I really enjoyed the hair washing. The hair expert massage each and every single pressure point and the soothing botanical hair wash will deeply cleanse and regulate the pH balance of your scalp and remove the dead skin and grime. After washing of hair, I went back to my seat and was pampered with a shoulder heating pad.

The next stage was the highlight treatment, the oxyjet technology. Oxyjet is a needleless jet infusion of oxygen and nutrients that penetrate deeply into the scalp. It helps increase blood circulation and production of collagen. The process has a capability of detoxifying, regeneration, resulting in hair growth and prevention of hair loss.

After Oxyjet, more nutrients were applied on my scalp to strengthen the cohesion of keratin fibres to increase the hair density. Followed by a scalp and shoulder massage. Afterwards, my hair was blown dry.

The final stage of this magical age-defying hair treatment was the infrared light therapy. It helps to improve blood circulation in your scalp and prevent the follicles from becoming dormant! This intensive regeneration encourages activity on the cellular level to promote hair growth and restore your hair to its former glory.

Results

My trichologist performed another scan to compare my hair condition before and after treatment. It was obvious that my dead skins have reduced though not completely gone yet.

Also, the pores which were previously clogged with dead skins have been cleared. And the reddish scalp was gone. I was amazed with the results and the professional service by the hair experts!

Before the treatment: reddish scalp, dead skin and oil clog were obvious.

TrichoKare emphasised that one treatment is able to improve the hair condition but can’t completely solve all my hair issues. They assured me that a series of regular treatments would bring back the youth in my hair.

Given their reputable achievement of receiving numerous awards, such as ELLE Beauty Treat List 2017, Excellent Service Award 2016, Harper’s BAZAAR Hair Awards 2016 and Singapore Women’s Weekly Hair Awards 2016, TrichoKare is a hair and scalp care centre not to be taken lightly.
