6 Lakes Marathon: A Race for Everyone

The 6 Lakes Marathon isn’t just a race; it’s an invitation to explore the beauty of Sweden’s natural landscapes on foot. With distances ranging from a manageable 5.5 km to a full marathon, participants of all skill levels can enjoy a day of running across trails and small forest roads.

The course layout allows friends to run together, each choosing a distance that suits their fitness level. Whether you’re a novice runner or a seasoned marathoner, the 6 Lakes Marathon offers a slightly more challenging course than your typical road race, yet is accessible enough for those new to trail running.

Starting Line Surrounded by Nature

Conveniently located at Fjällnora, less than an hour’s journey from Stockholm Arlanda Airport or a brief 25-minute bus ride from Uppsala Train Station, the race starts and finishes in a picturesque setting by a forest lake.

Fjällnora, known for its quaint beach nestled between two of the six lakes, serves as both the beginning and the endpoint of all race distances.

Inclusive and Community-Focused

The 6 Lakes Marathon is a celebration of the running community and the great outdoors. Unlike more competitive races, this event does not offer prize money or elite runner services, ensuring it remains open and welcoming to all participants.

Approximately 800 to 1,000 runners are expected to participate, with around 300 tackling the full marathon. Aid stations are plentiful, located about every 3 km, fully equipped to support runners throughout their journey.

6 Lakes Marathon
The marathon will guide you through six stunning lakes set within a quintessential Swedish forest landscape. The route is mostly comfortable to navigate, featuring small gravel roads, picturesque forest paths, and only a few kilometers on asphalt. Approximately 5 km of the marathon route traverses forest paths dotted with roots, requiring a more cautious pace. We have ample service stations along the well-marked course for your convenience. After the race, you’re invited to enjoy a refreshing swim, and if the weather is warm, you’ll appreciate passing by two inviting beaches along the route.

Unique Course Features and Fun Facts

One of the intriguing aspects of the race is its historical and geographical charm. Participants will encounter an old steam train crossing on the 10 km, half marathon, and marathon routes, adding a touch of adventure to the experience.

The route’s planning originated from one of the founders’ personal run in 2016, which perfectly matched the marathon distance of 42.2 km using GPS tracking—a serendipitous discovery that led to the event’s creation.

Commitment to Environmental Sustainability

The 6 Lakes Marathon is dedicated to preserving the natural environment it celebrates. The event emphasises sustainability practices, such as providing a Hydrapouch instead of disposable cups and offering optional T-shirts to reduce waste. The focus is on creating minimal environmental impact while maximising the experience for every participant.

This marathon isn’t just a race; it’s an opportunity to connect with nature, challenge oneself, and enjoy a day of camaraderie and scenic beauty. Mark your calendars for 17th August 2024, and don’t miss your chance to be a part of this exceptional event.

Whether you come to run, cheer, or enjoy the pristine beaches and café at the race’s heart, the 6 Lakes Marathon promises an unforgettable adventure in the heart of Sweden.
