The Running Guild is calling all runners – beginners and advanced – to step up to its newest challenge!

The Garang Warrior Challenge

Are you a Garang Warrior? How many 5 km loops can you finish in 12 hours?

On Sunday, 1 May 2016, you have from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. to finish off as many 5 km loops as possible at MacRitchie Reservoir.

  • If you run 1 to 9 loops (5 – 45 km), you’re “Garang”.
  • If you’re able to complete 10 to 19 loops (50 – 95 km), we’ll applaud you for being “Very Garang”.
  • And if you can achieve 20 loops and beyond (100 km or more) within just 12 hours, you’re officially the revered “Extremely Garang”!

As for terrain, expect to cover a garang mixture of trail, footpaths and road, including some up and down slopes.

The overall top three males and top three females, who finish the most number of laps in the fastest time, will win prizes from the sponsors. The reigning male and female champions will be conferred the title of “Most Garang Warrior” too.

Garang & Green

Play your part for a greener environment and BYOB – bring your own bottle, cup or hydration bag. To reduce waste, you are highly encouraged to either leave your labelled bottle or cup at the event site, or bring it along with you on the race course.

Preserving and protecting the nature reserve and trails is taken seriously. If you are caught littering along any part of the route, not only will you fined, but you will also be disqualified from the race. You’ve been warned!

Garang Perks

Organisers have promised a wide range of drinks and refreshments at the start/ finish area, including sports drink, coke, milo, coffee, ice, recovery drink, fruits like watermelon, banana and logan, bread, Nutella, chips and snacks. There will also be water and ice available at the 3 km water point.

To help you on your Garang endeavours, there will be a bag deposit for non-essential race items like shower items and post-run attire. There will also be a ‘Special Needs Station’ for you to self-deposit and self-retrieve your race essentials bag or items at any time during the event. There are no compulsory items for the race – you’re a Garang Warrior after all! – but you are recommended to bring items like sunglasses, cap and sunscreen amongst other things.
