Even though Run For Light 2018 is the event’s third edition, it has drawn a few firsts this year. First of all, the event will be held at the iconic Punggol Waterway Park for the first time on Saturday, 3 March 2018. The two previous two editions were held at Gardens by the Bay East.

The event scored another first with Punggol North Community Sports Club coming onboard as co-organiser partnering with Ideas Room Consulting Pte Ltd. Even with many firsts, one thing still remains unchanged. For the third consecutive time, Guide Dogs Singapore Limited (GDS) remains the adopted charity. Every S$2 from each ticket sold, including donations from some participants, will be pledged.

Run For Light 2018 is honoured to have Mr Ng Chee Meng, Minister for Education (Schools) and Second Minister for Transport who is also MP for Pasir Ris Punggol GRC to grace the occasion.

Around 2,500 participants have signed up for any of the three categories, namely 1KM blindfold walk, 5KM fun run and 10KM individual run. The latter is a competitive category where top 5 men and women finishers will win fabulous prizes. Since its inception, 1KM blindfold walk has been a symbolic event in support of those who are visually challenged. Two persons will form a team with one being blindfolded and led by a fully sighted team mate in the 1KM walk.

The event has five brave-hearted individuals who are participating as run ambassadors. Each run ambassador has to overcome some challenges in his or her life ranging from fighting cancer disease, losing 4 limbs or losing sight, among others. These run ambassadors are participating in either 1KM blindfold walk or 10KM run. Through the run ambassadors, Run For Light 2018 hopes to inspire everyone to take up running as a healthy outdoor hobby.

The start venue of the event is located on the boardwalk near Waterway Point at Punggol. Meanwhile, the race village is located at Punggol Town Square, which is also connected to the shopping mall. There are exciting activities lining up at the race village for participants and members of the public. Some lucky participants including members of the public will stand to win prizes in our lucky draw contest too.
