The ASICS City Relay Race was 42 km in total, whereby each of the team members had to finish a distance of 10.5 km to complete the race. The inaugural race took place on 1 August 2015 and saw a total of 672 teams taking part. Out of this number, there were 361 mixed-teams, 250 all-male teams and 61 all-female teams. My team, SuperF.I.T came in at number 9!
Over a thousand teams gathered together at the Singapore Sports Hub on the Saturday evening, 1 August 2015 to be part of Singapore’s first ever relay-only night marathon event. The inaugural ASICS City Relay sent teams of four off on high spirits in a unique running event. Competing in the Open, Students, Running Clubs, and Corporations categories, each team member ran an approximate 10.5 km circuit along the Singapore Sports Hub precinct and the adjacent Kallang River.
What’s it like to interview an entire team at the same time? In a word, fun! If enthusiasm is contagious, Team Beer-Lin is happily infected with the kind of enthusiasm, camaraderie and spirit that separates mediocre running teams from the pack. All four of our delightful athletes are in their 40s and all four have impressive careers, which makes their shared passion for running even more fascinating. We gave up trying to record “who said what,” so forgive us for lumping together their answers to our probing questions. If Team Beer-Lin could rule the world, we get the feeling we’d have more fun, healthier people and fewer wars! See if you don’t agree.
Have you watched the recent Youtube video in which 4 ‘speedsters’ decided to do a relay, raced against the MRT and managed to get from one station to another within 2 minutes and 30 seconds? What? 2 minutes and 30 seconds? Isn’t that as fast as the MRT itself? Yes! If you have watched it, you must have wondered, why did they do that? Are they promoting something? What has it got to do with the website, that appeared at the end of the video? Well, follow me through as I introduce to you Singapore’s 1st night marathon relay race! In fact, it is also ASICS’ first running event in Singapore!
