The upcoming 9th Bali International Triathlon (BIT) which is set for Sunday, 14 August, 2016 at its new venue, Sanur, received a boost by the local enforcement authority. The new venue will accommodate more participants, generate greater promotion and attract more visitors to the island.

Head of Bali Police, Police Inspector General Pol Drs Sugeng Priyanto SH, MA together with other heads of directorate from traffic bureau, intel bureau and operations bureau have pledged their support for the event organised by Bali Discovery Events (BDE) after meeting with the BDE team, which was represented by Arie S. Sukirno and M. Fathur Rozi.

During the audience, the BDT team provided a detailed mapping of the new 2016 BIT venue at Mertasari beach area in Sanur. BDT assured the Bali Police force that a feasibility study for the BIT has been done for Sanur area and the result indicated that it is capable of supporting an international class event such as the triathlon.

One concern raised though was the cycling route on Bypass Ngurah Rai and Bypass IB. Mantra. BDT has requested the Bali Police force to provide extra security and provide permission to close one side of the Bypass road, on the East and South side, during the event date.

The BIT event will be held in conjunction with the annual 11th Sanur Village Festival, from 24-28 August at Maisonette Area Inna Grand Bali Beach. Bapak I.B. Gede Sidharta, better known as Gusde, from YPS explained briefly about the Sanur Village Festival (SVF) event and how pleased he was that for this year, the BIT 2016 will become the official opening for SVF event.

This will add a new element to the festival, aside from culture, art and creativity, which is international sports. He further mentioned that major events such as SVF and BIT are important for Bali’s tourism to attract visitors local, national and international to Bali.

The Head of Bali Police welcomed SVF and BIT events and ensured his commitment to fully support it. As there will be many foreigners joining this event in an open and public environment, further coordination with other bureaus will be necessary for security matters.

Based on later conditions, if deemed necessary, the police force will deploy a fully armed Brimob personnel to ensure the safety of all participants and spectators.
