Tucked away in central Myanmar, the ancient site of Bagan will be the location of the newest adventure race from Adventure Marathon by Albatros Travel. The second edition of Bagan Temple Marathon will take place on 15 November 2014.

Rediscover the Ancient Capital of the Kingdom of Pagan

Bagan’s beauty and historical significance is unsurpassed. Located in the Mandalay Region of present-day Burma, over 4,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas and monasteries were constructed for the ancient Kingdom of Pagan between the 11th and 13th centuries, of which 2,000 remain to this day.

These sacred pagodas and beautiful temples are scattered across the plains of Bagan, creating a mystical, stunning landscape. The marathon course will take runners on a voyage of discovery into this alluring and untouched land.

After scouting various places in Asia, the Adventure Marathon team was not in doubt when they discovered Bagan. Torsten Edens, Head of International Sales and Global Sport at Albatros Travel, a Danish travel company with over 25 years of operational history says,

“With its history and unique location, Bagan is a fantastic place to highlight the wonders of Myanmar for our worldwide fan base of marathon runners. The race day is on 15 November 2014, and we are expecting to see a lot of participants from all over the world.”

See the Exceptional Beauty of Myanmar

Following the recent lifting of travel restrictions, Myanmar has experienced increased interest from travellers worldwide and Adventure Marathon is proud to present this alluring country as a new destination for its latest adventure marathon.

The 2013 event sold out within 4 weeks, with over 200 participants last year. Participation in the Bagan Temple Marathon also includes a full tour package consisting of carefully selected accommodation and specially crafted tours to showcase this exceptionally beautiful country.

Growing to be an Extraordinary Race in Asia

Just like the Great Wall Marathon which also started out as a small intimate race and grew to be featured as one of “Top 10 Marathons Worth Traveling For” by Forbes, Adventure Marathon is proud to be in Myanmar and developing a new race that will grow and become one of the extraordinary races in the Asian calendar.

The temple plains of Bagan are visually fantastic, and travelling in rustic Myanmar is still an adventure. When the starter pistol is fired at sunrise, you will traverse the magnificent archaeological site and see the sun rise over the glistening, golden spires!

The Bagan Marathon will take place on 15 November 2014. Registrations are now open.
