This year marks the 10th edition of Standard Chartered KL Marathon (SCKLM). The premier international running event in Malaysia will be held on 7 April (Kids Dash) and 8 April 2018 at its spiritual home in Dataran Merdeka.

Public registrations for SCKLM2018 are open from 10 January 2018. The reservation and registrations of the 2017 runners had been completed and had taken over 16,000 race slots, with the remaining 19,000 now open to the public. Registration will close on 28 February 2018 or until sold out, whichever comes first.

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, SCKLM introduces 10 new race features.

1. Introduction of Participation History

This feature allows runners to check the history of their past participation and how they have progressed through the years from the SCKLM website.

2. Kids Dash Timing Chips

For the first time, the Kids Dash participants will be using timing chips. The chips will allow family and friends to track the kids through SCKLM App. The finishing times will be determined by the timing chips as well.

3. Standalone Kids Dash

In order to give more prominence to the Kids Dash categories, the event will be held a day earlier on 7 April 2018. This would allow parents to be present to support their children instead of being involved in their own respective runs.

4. SCKLM Juggernauts

Loyal runners who have participated in all 10 editions of the race are now a part of the “SCKLM Juggernauts” and will receive special privileges, such as personalised running t-shirts and customised bib numbers.

5. Introduction of VIP package

Runners will have the option to purchase VIP Packages that would entitle them to priority Race Pack collection, VIP Start (Pen 1), access to the VIP Tent and a breakfast buffet, VIP baggage drop, a Brooks polo shirt and track pants. The VIP Package costs MYR200 and is limited to 50 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.

6. Motivational Signs

Upon registration for SCKLM, runners can submit a motivational quote that inspires them. The best 20 quotes will be displayed on signboards along the Full Marathon route with the runner’s name attached.

7. Option to choose running t-shirts with or without sleeves

Runners will be able to choose between a running tee or a singlet.

8. Special Commemorative Finisher Medals

To commemorate its 10th anniversary, SCKLM will introduce medals featuring a unique KL skyline swivel design.

9. Introduction of a new feature within the SCKLM App

The SCKLM App, which won Gold at the SPIA Asia Awards held in Bangkok recently, will introduce an exciting new photo feature that will capture runners’ memorable running moments.

10. New Full and Half Marathon Routes

To keep the race fresh and challenging, the Full and Half Marathon categories will have a new route that navigates around more of Kuala Lumpur’s iconic landmarks.

Charity programme Run For A Reason (RFAR) has been an integral component of SCKLM which has benefitted and improved the lives of thousands of Malaysians over the last 9 years. For 2018, the charity beneficiaries are Seeing Is Believing – Standard Chartered Bank’s initiative to improve access to eye-care across their markets, the National Cancer Society of Malaysia, Hospis Malaysia and Dignity For Children Foundation.

At the official launch, Rainer Biemans, Director of Dirigo Events and Project Director of SCKLM said,

We are very fortunate to have been able to cultivate a loyal following of runners over the years, with a number of participants who have signed up for all 10 of our races thus far. We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to the running community for their support and to celebrate our 10th anniversary, we will be regularly engaging with them over our social media channels to give away a lot of goodies.

SCKLM has benefited from the strong support shown by its sponsors, primarily title sponsor Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia. Abrar A. Anwar, Managing Director and CEO of Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia, said,

Standard Chartered Bank is proud to once again be the title sponsor of the Standard Chartered KL Marathon and in the tenth year of our association, it is indeed gratifying to see the event become the premier running event in Malaysia, one that is eagerly awaited by the running community here.

Other recurring partners are Brooks, Seiko, Lucozade and Pacific Regency.
