Also known as New Zealand’s Premier road race, The Auckland Marathon stands out as a highlight in New Zealand running calendar.

Rapidly gaining an international reputation, the iconic Auckland City course starts at the sea-side Devonport village. Runners will cross the Harbour Bridge (the second longest bridge in the country), taking in the harbour and boating aspects before finishing in the Central Business District city area.

With the mounting reputation, this year’s event will host more than 6,000 visitors to Auckland from around New Zealand and more than 50 other countries!

With more than 17,500 entries expected across the 4 events that make up the Auckland Marathon, this year’s event on 2 November will be another record breaker. Entries continue to grow year on year, with the full marathon regularly attracting over 3,500 entries making it the largest annual marathon in New Zealand.

The Half Marathon, with capped entries, sells out its 7,500 places in only a matter of days and this year was no exception. Despite the sell-out, a limited number of entries remain open for international participants or for those who wish to be part of the charity programme. Full Marathon entries also remain open.

Not Just a Run… An Experience!

The Marathon’s managing director, Stephen Brown, is particularly pleased with the build-up to this year’s event, noting that some of the key elements that the organisers have focussed on as part of the event’s continuous improvement programme are coming to fruition.

“We try very hard to make running the Auckland Marathon something to remember – we focus strongly on elements that positively impact every participant! This event is the only chance to cross the Auckland Harbour Bridge on foot, as well as witnessing the incredibly scenic nature of the course and the finish, with great entertainment for spectators and runners alike at Victoria Park in central Auckland.”

In a further coup for the event, the Quarter Marathon this year will cross the Auckland Harbour Bridge for the very first time! Numbers in this event are capped and are selling fast, but as for all events, a certain number of international entries are held open to ensure that those who make Auckland a marathon destination do not miss out.

Take in the spectacular views which Auckland has to offer while running across the iconic Auckland Harbour Bridge in the Marathon and Half Marathon and Quarter Marathon events – an experience within itself!

The Auckland Marathon takes place on 2 November in New Zealand. Registrations are available for international runners, and are currently still ongoing.
