Born with a cleft lip, Mike Cheong knows what it’s like to be the butt of people’s jokes. The 29-year-old public relations consultant is grateful for his family’s financial and emotional support to help him through numerous procedures when he was a child.

Last month saw the North Face 100 trail run take place in Singapore, and on November 25th, many of you will participate in the Salomon X-Trail Run. For me, this is what running is all about. It’s a chance to escape from the concrete jungle and return to nature, and it provides the opportunity to run in an environment closer to that in which humans evolved to run.

In a city where it is difficult to find uninterrupted natural spaces, the Green Corridor Run is the first running race organised to raise the profile of this incredible stretch of greenery and to encourage the community to enjoy and show their support in keeping the area as natural as possible. Happening on 27 January 2013, this run starts at the historic Tanjong Pagar Rail Station and finished at the Bukit Timah Rail Station.

Sky Khoo is your runner’s runner, with multiple races under his belt and a determination to keep going faster. This year, he’s using his Standard Chartered Marathon run to help the Make-A-Wish Foundation
