The 20th edition of the HomeTeamNS REAL Run will be a premier event. The HomeTeamNS REAL Run is designed to promote cohesiveness among Home Team NSmen and their families.
But what do you need to know, in order to be fully prepared for the race? That is why the race organisers have scheduled a sharing session on endurance running with Northface athlete, Sam McGrath on 23 April, at the HomeTeamNS Bukit Batok Auditorium.
This year, a new 5km Recreational Run will be introduced. This replaces the previous 3KM Fun Walk in 2013. A 500M Kid’s Beach Dash along the Sentosa Beach will also be introduced for boys and girls aged from 7-12 years old.
Just as the sun rose, 6,000 avid cross terrain runners descended on Harbour Front to race in, what has been touted, “Singapore’s toughest 10km”. At 7am, there was a steam of orange with freckles of colour spanning the road leading to Sentosa. Energetic and loud, the running gang composed of kids, adults and even grandparents who were ready to conquer this race of sand, gravel and road.
Started in 1996, the Regular Exercise, Active Lifestyle Run, REAL Run has grown significantly in size and following! Initially targeted at Home Team NS, comprising of members from the Civil Defence Force and Police, the REAL Run started off small but exploded to a whopping 6,500 hardcore cross terrain runners in 2012! From road to jungle to beach, the REAL Run hits you with new surprises each year.
The Home Team NS New Balance Real Run 2012 is organised by the very people that keep our country safe from within. So naturally, they are painstakingly familiar with the cross-terrain running options our sunny island offers.
The HomeTeamNS – New Balance REAL Run, formerly a 15-kilometre race, had its distance notched up to 21 kilometres this year, with the inclusion of a supplementary 10-kilometre challenge.
