The inaugural Mizuno Ekiden Race wrapped up with a flurry of exciting activities which saw about 3,000 people gathered at The Meadow, Gardens by the Bay on Saturday, 18 July 2015. As some 2,500 participants got ready in their teams of four for the first flag off at 7:00 a.m., they were greeted with more than the typical race hype. Energy pulsed in the air as taiko drummers, lined up along the start pen, pounded the brightly coloured traditional Japanese instruments to flag off the runners in style and grandeur.
Singapore will see it’s first full-fledged Ekiden relay race, the Mizuno Ekiden 2015 on 18 July 2015, Saturday at The Meadow, Gardens by the Bay at 7:00 a.m. This inaugural event will be the first of its kind in Singapore and targets at least 5,000 participants. The event will feature teams of four runners competing in a relay race over the same race course over a full marathon or half marathon distance before finishing at a Matsuri race village.
Be inspired to run with the speed and prowess of the Tengu, a mythical creature in Japanese folklore known for its ability to move with great velocity and rapidity. Featuring a brand new design, the Mizuno Wave Hitogami 2 depicts its bold characteristics.
Having started in 2003, this year’s Big Splash Mizuno Wave Run 2013 had plenty of reasons to celebrate. Not only was this the 10th year that Mizuno of being title sponsor and organiser, the National Parks Board (NParks) also celebrates its 50th anniversary for making Singapore a greener place.
The 9th Annual Mizuno PAssion Wave Run 2012 (MPWR) had a turnout of 2631 participants this year. What was distinct about the run was its unique local heartland feel. You could hardly ignore the enthusiasm of avid runners as they were clearly excited to begin their early morning 16km run in the midst of Bukit Merah HDB estate.
In its six year running, the Mizuno Passion Mount Faber Run was a great draw for runners, as the route contained an element uncommon in Singapore – hills! Just 10km long, the rapid inclines featured heavily, making this race a challenge for any runner. Though glutes were fatigued repeatedly, reward came in panoramic views at the submit of each climb. Breathtaking sights and a bun buster really get your heart going.

So it’s not the biggest of running events on the Singapore race calendar – in terms of participation rates – but you certainly can’t discount that it’s been a staple in the scene for the past eight years.
