The third female only Nike race took place without a glitch on 11th May 2013. From various parts of the island, 8000 women of all ages and races made their way down to the Gardens by the Bay East for the Nike She Runs 5K. Entry slots had been snapped up like hot cakes and registration closed mere weeks after it was launched.

The Energizer Singapore Night Trail was back charging Lorong Asrama into a frenzy. “The third time’s the charm” proved true when there were 2,000 more runners than in 2012! A stream of reflective bright orange flooded the lanes of Asrama for Singapore’s most novel night race. A rare treat, since this area is only available to military men!

It was not the usual shopping crowd outside Nike’s lifestyle concept store at Orchard Central last Saturday night, look closely and you could see a throng of excited females all geared up for the Nike free trial run. The training run was part of Nike’s initiative to bring female runners together, so as to inspire them to enjoy running in a social setting.

Pavement running is simple: Warm up, reach your running stride and speed and stay there until it’s time to cool down. But there lies the problem: If this is done repetitively, doesn’t that seem a tad boring?
